OpenEMR integration for the A.I. front desk

OpenEMR is open source and each practice runs its own install, so access is granted by your own admin with no vendor fee. Its API covers patients and booking, but not open times or editing an appointment.

Built for: Practices running their own OpenEMR install

What the connection does

What the front desk can do in OpenEMR.

  • Look up existing patients

    Yes
  • Create new patients

    Yes
  • Update patient details

    Yes
  • Read providers and locations

    Yes
  • See open appointment times

    With setup

OpenEMR's API has no availability lookup; open times come from your practice hours, checked against booked appointments.

  • Book appointments

    Yes
  • Cancel appointments

    With setup

Cancelling removes the appointment from the calendar rather than marking it cancelled.

  • Reschedule appointments

    With setup

Made by removing the old appointment and booking the new time.

How booking works

From the call to OpenEMR.

The front desk offers times inside your practice hours that are not already booked, then books the appointment in OpenEMR. A reschedule removes the old appointment and books the new time.

What you will need

  • An OpenEMR admin to enable the API
  • An install reachable over the internet
  • Each provider's bookable hours

Setup

How we connect OpenEMR.

  1. 01

    Enable the API

Your OpenEMR admin turns on the API and approves our client registration. Your install must be reachable over the internet.

  2. 02

    Set bookable hours

We record each provider's bookable hours and the appointment categories the front desk may use.

  3. 03

    Test, then go live

Test patients and appointments are created and removed before live calls start.

OpenEMR integration questions, answered.

Do we have to change anything about how we use OpenEMR?

No. OpenEMR stays your system of record. The front desk works inside the schedule, appointment types and providers you already have, and your team keeps working in OpenEMR as they do today.

Is there a fee to connect OpenEMR?

No vendor fee. OpenEMR is open source, and your own admin grants access.
